FACULTY POSITIONS IN MATHEMATICS AT UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

LSA Collegiate Fellows Program/Tenure Track Assistant Professor/Tenured Associate Professor

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan is seeking exceptional candidates for positions in mathematics offered in combination with the LSA Collegiate Fellows Program (LCF).  These will be regular tenure track or tenured appointments at the assistant or associate professor level with commensurate salaries which will be enhanced by additional resources from the Collegiate Fellowship.  The Collegiate Fellowships can be held prior to or concurrently with a tenure track appointment.

The candidate is expected to have an established superb research program. The College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) and the University seek applicants whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in bringing to their teaching, mentoring, service, engagement, and/or research the critical perspectives that come from underrepresented educational backgrounds and pathways or scholarly understanding of the experiences of groups who are historically marginalized in higher education. Collegiate Fellows participate in a program that includes faculty mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor

Lewis Research Assistant Professorships, to begin August 26, 2024.  These non-tenure-track positions may be renewed annually for up to three years, and are designed to provide mathematicians with favorable  circumstances for academic career development in research and teaching. Assistant professorships have a teaching responsibility of two courses per semester; Byrne and DJ Lewis Research positions have reduced teaching loads. These positions may be combined with other postdoctoral fellowships and grant funding, giving additional reductions in teaching responsibility. Michigan Finance Postdoc Posting 2023-24

The University of Michigan, Department of Mathematics, invites applications for Postdoctoral Assistant Professorships and Byrne Research Assistant Professorships to begin August 26, 2024. We have a very strong tradition in this area. Assistant professorships have a teaching responsibility of 2-1 teaching loads; Byrne Research positions have even further reduced teaching loads. The teaching assignments will be in the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Master’s Program and the undergraduate program in financial mathematics.

Lecturer III

Job Summary:

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full time Lecturer III position to begin August 26, 2024. This is a non-tenure track position with a university year appointment (i.e. runs September 1 through May 31 each year). The initial appointment period will be three years and the appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the college.

 Responsibilities:

A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties. Lecturer III positions in mathematics carry a teaching load of two courses per semester as well as a significant administrative responsibility. In particular, this position will support the management of the  Department’s Math Learning Center (MLC), including walk-in tutoring (Math Lab) and testing (Mastery Assessment) centers, as well as associated training of undergraduate and graduate students working in the Learning Center. A substantial fraction of the teaching responsibilities will be concentrated in our introductory program.

 Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have a doctorate in Mathematics prior to the start date of the position and have substantial experience teaching mathematics at the collegiate level. Criteria for selection and renewal include excellence in classroom teaching, demonstrated administrative skill, and the ability to work productively with faculty and staff in our department.
