Why did you want to become an RA? I wanted to become an RA for a whole host of reasons! If I had to narrow it down, though, I think I was driven by my love of people and my heart to serve. I believe that it's important for everyone (especially those new to the university, like freshmen) to both know and feel like they matter and belong here, and so I applied because I felt I could be the caring and attentive person appropriate for that role. Similarly, I feel that it's imperative that each student have someone around that they feel comfortable coming to for help, guidance, and/or friendship, and I was/am eager to serve in that capacity. Regarding my desire to become an LSWA RA, specifically, I would give all of the same reasons I've stated, but I would also add the selfish reason of not wanting to leave the LSWA (formerly LHSP) program. LHSP was where I found my home on campus my freshman year, and it has been my home ever since. The students and staff are warm, welcoming, and an absolute joy to be around, and the creativity brought to each new year always astounds me. No matter their major or their creative medium, every LHSP/LSWA student always has something unique to contribute to the creative conversation, and so I wanted to be an RA to both watch and help each person explore everything they themselves, the program, and their fellow students have to offer.

What hopes do you have for the upcoming year? I'm excited to get to know my residents and the other LSWA students, and I'm hoping this year will be full of the same caliber of creative energy as in past years!

Is there anything you'd like to say to future LSWA students? Get to know as many people as you can (including your RAs, SAs, and CMs)! I’ve found that you can learn so much from the people around you – both creatively and generally – so make sure to embrace this wonderful community you’ve found and make the most of your first year as a student here! And, of course, welcome to the program! :)
