Whether you will be leaving campus or staying in Ann Arbor, here are some tips to help you prepare for a safe winter break.

Residence halls closed during break - Residence halls and undergraduate Northwood Apartments I, II and III will close on Friday, December 19, at 7:00 p.m., and students must vacate their buildings by this date.  Residence hall students who are not leaving Ann Arbor during the winter break must make other arrangements for lodging.  The Ann Arbor Area Convention & Visitors Bureau offers information about places to stay.  The residence halls and dining halls will reopen at noon on January 4, 2015.

Lock Up – Secure your valuable items like computers, cameras, etc. and lock all doors and windows to your room, apartment or rental house.  Close window blinds and drapes, and don't leave valuables in sight.  You might consider taking portable electronics like laptops and iPods, jewelry, and other small valuables with you.  Remember, the majority of all thefts happen through unlocked doors and windows.  Oh, emptying and unplugging refrigerators is a good thing.

Fire prevention – Turn off or unplug appliances, including coffee pots, computers, printers, copiers, and lights to avoid over-heating.  This also reduces electrical consumption.

Bus to the airport – Central Student Government offers airBus service to students with frequent and comfortable rides to and from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport for $7-$11.  For more information and to reserve a ride, visit https://csg.umich.edu/airbus. AATA also offers AirRide bus service to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport for $12 - $15.  More information is available athttp://www.theride.org/Services/AirportService

University Unions hours –For information about The Michigan Union, The Michigan League, and Pierpont Commons, including specific hours of operation for food and retail, please see http://uunions.umich.edu/hours.
