12:00 AM
Couzens Hall, Multi-Purpose Room

Matthews is a two-time Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

This is an early announcement for NEXT WEEK:  LHSP will hold its second All-Community Meeting on Wednesday, November 19th, from 7-8:00 pm, Multi-Purpose Room of Couzens Hall.

Poet Dee Matthews will be our guest speaker.  Matthews is a two-time Women of the World Poetry Slam finalist, a former Detroit Grand Slam Champion and a popular performance poet on the national touring scene. She is pursuing her MFA in Poetry here at UM, where she was recently awarded a Helen Zell Fellowship and the Michael R. Gutterman Prize in Poetry. Her short fiction is upcoming in SLAB literary magazine.

She has been featured at select international venues, wowing audiences with her deeply moving performance collections. Her work combines her abiding love for 17th century verse with a modern voice and keen eye on current events. Her style, by turns, has been described as aching, chilling and fierce.

We are fortunate to have this talented artist share her creative talents with us.

Remember that attendance is mandatory and will factor into your participation grade.  We look forward to seeing everyone in our community next Wednesday, as we celebrate writing and the arts together!
