Seventh-generation Detroiter Emily Linn (A.B. '00) co-founded City Bird LLC in 2009. Eight years later, sales from her gallery and shop—which specializes in locally made art, apparel, and handmade goods—are expected to reach $2 million. Linn dramatically expanded her company’s product line in 2016, and City Bird now sells wholesale to nearly 100 shops and museums around Michigan. Linn runs the company with her brother Andy Linn (A.B. '06 ), a 2020 Crain’s “20 in Their 20s” honoree.

As a partner in Bodman PLC and co-chair of the firm’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice Group, Detroit lawyer Rebecca O’Reilly (A.B. '00) is developing a sophisticated platform for multi-firm coordination. O’Reilly established the Bodman group in 2017 after running a successful solo practice in which she partnered with experts from regional and national law firms. She anticipates a future when “complex national law practice will require lawyers practiced in the management of ‘virtual law firms.’”
