LSA Digital Culture Expert Contributes to BBC Radio Documentary on Marshall McLuhan

Tung Hui-Hu, assistant professor of English at LSA and a former network engineer, spoke to BBC Radio for a documentary about the visionary communications theorist Marshall McLuhan. McLuhan coined the phrases “the medium is the message” and “global village” in the 1960s.

Hu told the BBC that decades before the rise of the internet, McLuhan envisioned a day when electronic media would enable human beings to be involved in each other’s lives “in a way that we’ve never had before.” Tung Hui-Hu is the author of A Prehistory of the Cloud, a study of digital culture, in addition to three books of poetry.
