April 11—LSA Professor Heather Ann Thompson was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for her book Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and Its Legacy. According to a statement on the Pulitzer Prize website, Thompson's work was honored as a "narrative history that sets high standards for scholarly judgment and tenacity of inquiry in seeking the truth about the 1971 Attica prison riots."

"I am thrilled to congratulate Professor Thompson on the receipt of this prestigious award, one reserved for only the most excellent scholarship and writing," says Andrew D. Martin, dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
