LSA political scientist Edie Goldenberg was featured in a New York Times storyabout efforts on college campuses to boost student voter turnout in this November’s mid-term elections. Goldenberg, a professor of political science, said she was shocked to learn that fewer than 14 percent of U-M students had cast ballots in the last midterm election.

Goldenberg wants to double that number this year—and U-M is backing the effort by challenging its Big Ten football rivals to see which school can get more students to vote in the midterms. At Michigan and on other campuses across the country, the focus is not on any one election or political party, reports the Times, but on the need to combat a troubling decline in political participation.
