LSA Chemist Melanie Sanford Wins 2017 Blavatnik National Award for Young Scientists
Yesterday, the Blavatnik Family Foundation and the New York Academy of Sciences announced their selection of LSA Professor Melanie Sanford and two others as 2017 Laureates of the Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists.
Sanford, who also received a prestigious MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship in 2011, works on new approaches to organic synthesis.
The honor, which comes with an award of $250,000, is aimed at the most excellent early career scientists and engineers. Sanford, along with Feng Zhang of MIT and Yi Cui of Stanford, were selected from nominations from the nation's most prestigious universities.
“The work of these three brilliant Laureates demonstrates the exceptional science being performed at America’s premiere research institutions and the discoveries that will make the lives of future generations immeasurably better,” said Len Blavatnik, head of the Blavatnik Family Foundation.
