The First-Generation Commitment is a new initiative created by the College of LSA that is focused on enhancing the academic and social experiences of first-generation and limited-income students in the liberal arts and sciences at U-M.
Mission
Through an asset-based framework, the mission of the First-Generation Commitment is to foster the holistic student success of first-gen and limited-income students within the College of LSA at the University of Michigan.
Goals
The First-Generation Commitment has three goals. We connect students to:
People
Helping students develop a positive sense of belonging. We will assist students by immediately connecting them to a community of support that will partner with students to highlight and lean on their strengths.
Places
Helping students navigate campus resources. We will assist students by easing their transition to campus by familiarizing them with appropriate resources and people that will help them succeed.
Preparation
Helping students leverage their experience(s) for increased opportunities.We will assist students with innovative and proactive career exploration opportunities.
