Welcome to the First-Generation Commitment

Supporting the success of first-generation and limited income students in the College of LSA.

What does it mean to be first-generation?

At LSA we consider you a first-generation, or "first-gen," college student if your parents or guardians have not completed a four-year college or university degree. If that sounds like you, congratulations! You belong here, and we are excited to have you.

What is the First-Generation Commitment?

The First-Generation Commitment is a newly created initiative designed to provide comprehensive, asset-based support for first-generation and limited-income students within the College of LSA to ensure their successful transition into the University of Michigan’s academic and social community. Put simply, we aim to foster the recognition, engagement, and success of all LSA first-gen and limited-income students and supporters.
