About
What is your advising philosophy? EECC (think the sound that Darryl Hannah makes in “Splash” that shatters glass. BTW I’m a big Tom Hanks fan.)
•Expect to learn from each student and colleague.
•Empower students to be self-sufficient and take ownership for their decisions.
•Connect courses and co-curricular activities with strength and interests.
•Celebrate successes, breakthroughs, and graduation.
What was your path to Newnan? From being the director of the largest residence hall at Stanford University, to being an unsuccessful finalist for another job in student services, to attending graduate school in history of art to get the credential I lacked in the failed job application, to having my first teaching assistant job (aka GSI, but this was a long time ago) for the former Director of the Advising Center, to researching Greek pots in Sicily, to needing financial support to hone this research into a dissertation, I came to the Newnan LSA Advising Center in September 1992. My own version of Herodotus’ loops.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? I enjoy learning from students and colleagues.
Class you loved and why? My favorite class as an undergraduate was a graphic design studio art class. We were given problems in color, form, space, and expression and asked to bring our solutions to class for critique. It was amazing to see how differently people’s minds worked.
Interests and hobbies: I enjoy swimming, gardening and textile arts. My musical tastes range from R&B to house/techno. I live in a multi-species household with a cat, dog, and bear.
