About
What is your advising philosophy?
Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people's approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, and then step back.
The only path to serenity.
--Lao Tzu
What was your path to Newnan? I taught English and creative writing for ten years before joining the Newnan Advising Center. I taught at the University of Michigan, Oakland University, Henry Ford Community College, and The Ohio State University. I enjoyed working as Writer-in-Residence with InsideOut, a Detroit Literary Arts Project, inspiring students to write through art, music, and poetry, and being inspired by them in return. I also advised undergraduate and graduate students as Student Services Associate in the U-M Department of Comparative Literature.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? Helping students develop their interests and utilize the wealth of resources and opportunities available to them at U-M.
