About
What is your advising philosophy? I believe in helping students reach their full potential and bring their goals to fruition. Every student is unique, and my job is to realize and respect that. I compare a student's degree and academic journey to a jigsaw puzzle; My goal as an advisor is to help students put the puzzle together and provide students with the tools to make all the pieces fit. The students ultimately decide what the puzzle looks like once it's together.
What was your path to Newnan? I have worked in various roles in higher education, including ESL, community college, exploratory populations, and arts & sciences advising. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and am passionate about the benefits of a liberal arts education, which makes advising in LSA's Newnan Advising Center a natural next step in my advising career.
Why did you join Newnan? I was looking for an opportunity to grow as an academic advisor and serve a broader population of students. Newnan showed themselves to be a collaborative team committed to serving students in meaningful, positive ways, which made me excited to join their advising team.
Class you loved and why? EDPS 650 Motivation to Learn at Eastern Michigan University. This class looked at the synergistic factors that drive students toward meaningful learning. In this class, I found concrete, identifiable ways to relate to students (and to myself!), the barriers we all encounter as learners, and how to overcome these barriers.
Interests and hobbies When I'm not at work, you'll find me spending time with my family (my spouse, two kids, and our pets- two dogs, two guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, and a turtle). I enjoy reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors (preferably in the sun, on or near the water, or in the woods). I absolutely love animals, especially rescue animals and endangered species (manatees and sea turtles). Please stop by my physical or virtual office and be prepared to show me pictures of your pets!
