When did you join Newnan? August 2018
What was your path to Newnan? It's been a non-linear one. I'm from the east side of the state originally but moved out to the Grand Rapids area for school, where I wound up living for almost a decade. I was hired as a reporter straight out of college but continued my then-side job as a makeup artist. The makeup half of my career started taking off, leading to roles in inventory management and merchandising at a variety of cosmetic retail chains. Shortly after moving to Ann Arbor, I made the not-so-logical jump to the world of automotive prototyping and engineering, where I coordinated nationwide retrofitting campaigns for school buses. It was a completely new world for me but I learned a lot from it. After a while, I found I was missing the world of academia but didn't necessarily think it was the right fit for me to go back to school at that time. Working in SAA allows me to experience the university atmosphere while helping students on their path to graduation.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? Everyone is incredibly welcoming and has a genuine passion for what they do. We are a busy office but the environment is very open and collaborative.
Subject you love and why? I love classic literature of all varieties. An AP English assignment to read Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment in high school was the beginning of my love affair with Russian literature and, although I didn't know it at the time, Dostoevsky would become one of the primary inspirations for my decision to pursue Russian Studies at the collegiate level. Aside from Dostoevsky, some of my favorite authors are Nabokov, Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy and Bulgakov. I'm also a fan of fantasy novels and comic books.
Interests and hobbies: By night, I am a crazy cat lady who enjoys knitting, crocheting and spending time with my two extremely spoiled cats, Momo and Luna. I collect vinyl and, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I am also a kpop fanatic (ask me about my bias!) attempting to teach myself Korean in my spare time.
