Pre-Law Academic Advisor
About
What is your advising philosophy? First and foremost, active listening on my part is key. I want my students to have as much information as possible to make an informed decision, be it about class selection, career path, or otherwise. My goal is to have my students be happy, healthy, and balanced. Life is all about balance.
What was your path to Newnan? I came to Newnan after practicing law for almost 15 years. I spent time in a myriad of jobs: as a prosecutor and public defender in Chicago, as a lobbyist for the City of Chicago, as the general counsel of a City of Chicago Department that investigated police shootings and misconduct, as an attorney with the FBI investigating Special Agent misconduct, as an intelligence analyst with the FBI, as a sports agent for a brief period, and as an attorney with the EPA focusing on compliance with regulations. I have always loved academic settings and interacting with students whenever I could throughout my career. Newnan is a perfect blend of my passion for helping students and my love of academia.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? The students and all of the excitement that they bring to each interaction. I learn something new every single day. My colleagues are pretty funny too.
Class you loved and why? I can't narrow it down to just one so I'll name three, all of which were here at UM:
1. Introduction to Field Archaeology...learned that it's not all like Indiana Jones.
2. Topics in Film: The Horror Film...get credit to talk, analyze, and write about horror films from Frankenstein to Halloween? No brainer.
3. Sports & Economic Development...amazing class about how and why sports team locate where they do in urban areas and how front office executives use economics and deep market research to reach those decisions.
Interests and hobbies: I absolutely love baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs (lived in Chicago for a total of 18 years), UM football and basketball games, traveling with my wife, trying new restaurants, Sunday night television on HBO, and finding up and coming bands and seeing them at small venues.
