About
What is your advising philosophy? My goal is to support students in exploring the different options available to them at Michigan and help them think through how these options relate to their own personal, professional, and academic goals. Our university offers students a wealth of opportunities that can be both exciting and overwhelming. I see myself as helping students to consider these options and figure out how to navigate them in a productive and personally meaningful way.
What was your path to Newnan? I came to Michigan to do a PhD in Romance Languages. My plan was to be a Spanish professor. Over time my interests and careers goals shifted and I realized that I wanted to be in a student-focused profession rather than a research-focused one. A colleague suggested that I consider academic advising. I did some exploring and realized that it was exactly was I was hoping for from a career. I love living in Michigan and had the good luck to find a position here.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? Everyone here shares a commitment both to students and their own professional development. I feel supported in prioritizing students’ well being as well as in trying to learn and grow as an advisor. Newnan is a compassionate and dynamic community.
Class you loved and why? My junior year of undergrad I took a course on a type of Latin American testimonial literature co-taught by a historian and a literary critic. I loved how their disciplinary trainings both complemented and conflicted in our discussions about historical truth, memory, and justice. The class was also my introduction to critical theory and was one of the academic experiences that led me to pursue a PhD.
Interests and hobbies: I love yoga! I practice several days a week at a local studio. I also really enjoy reading and trying new recipes.
