About
What is your advising philosophy? My advising philosophy is to meet students where they are, help them find out who they are, and discovering what makes them happy.
What was your path to Newnan? During my time in graduate school I was working as a Program Coordinator for the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) and as a Career and Education Counselor for the Center for the Education of Women (CEW). Both of these jobs allowed me to advise students in different ways, as well as make a serious impact on the student experience here at Michigan. It was during my time in MESA that I was exposed to Student Affairs, which led to me joining the team at the Center for Campus Involvement as a Program Advisor. At CCI I was able to develop and implement innovative programs to cater to diverse communities on campus, strengthen existing programs to be more inclusive and welcoming to all, as well as create new ways to develop our students academically and professionally. With a gentle nudge from one of my students, I applied to be an Academic Advisor to help guide students through what feels like an impossible journey, in order to help them see their true potential.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? I enjoy the students!! Meeting different students and learning about them while simultaneously helping them discover what they're passionate about is pretty amazing.
Class you loved and why? DAAS 336 - Black Women in America was one of my absolute favorite courses here at Michigan. I learned so much history behind the identities that I hold and challenges that women like myself faced in different eras. It was an eye opening experience. I would also say that my IGR course on religion (UC 122) helped to shape and mold my perception of peers and why they do what they do. I gained some lifelong friends in that class and I'm happy I made the decision to be involved with that course.
Interests and hobbies: Reading, trying new food/restaurants, working out (CrossFit challenges), teaching people how to meal prep, and traveling.
