About
What is your advising philosophy? As an advisor, I seek to create a welcoming and supportive space for all students. I am committed to connecting with students wherever they are on their academic, personal, and professional path. My wish is that all students are able to find and build community at U-M, to develop a sense of self-empowerment, and to create meaning in their lives.
What was your path to Newnan? After teaching sociology and gender & sexuality studies at multiple colleges, I realized I wanted more one-on-one interaction with students than I had as a professor. Most recently, I was an advisor at a local community college and found that advising was a really good fit. But I missed working with students at a 4-year university so transitioning to Newnan was the perfect next step for me.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? I am grateful that I can work with a diverse group of students from orientation to graduation. I also enjoy working with excellent colleagues who are also committed to seeing students succeed.
Class you loved and why? My favorite class was “Racism and Intellectuals” in which we explored the theoretical development of anti-racism. We also explored ways to apply these theories to our own lives, as well as to build resources for anti-racism at the campus, national, and global level.
Interests and hobbies: I love walking my black lab rescue dog, travel, and strong coffee.
