About
What is your advising philosophy? Each student who walks into our office is unique, and as advisors, we have to recognize that. Advising is often much more than checking off boxes to ensure a student is on track for graduation. It is a professional relationship that fosters personal and academic growth for the student. I strive to make each student feel welcome and comfortable in order to help students optimize their college experience.
What was your path to Newnan? Though I grew up in Canada, my entire higher educational career has been in Michigan. Throughout both my undergraduate and my graduate degree, I learned the importance of student success. During time, I became a full-time academic advisor at Eastern Michigan University, and became heavily involved in working with students with disabilities. I also decided to pursue a second Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Accepting a position at Newnan was an easy next step for my professional development.
What do you enjoy about working in Newnan? I've always enjoyed working one-on-one with students, and working at Newnan is no exception. I also have the privilege of working with an incredibly supportive and friendly staff.
Class you loved and why? Crisis Intervention in Counseling. This course provided a look into the role of Crisis Counselors, focusing both on theory and practice. Throughout this course, we learned the nature of Crisis Counseling, the interventions following crisis events and disasters, and how to work one-on-one with clients who have recently experienced a personal crisis.
