LSA departments that plan to appoint incoming graduate students as GSIs in their first term on campus must first determine if the student attended an undergraduate institution in which English was the exclusive medium of instruction. If the student did not attend an English-exclusive institution, they must attend ELI 994 before they teach in an LSA classroom.. This is part of the College of LSA’s “Policy for Graduate Students with Non-English Medium Undergraduate Backgrounds Who Seek GSI Positions in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts."
