LSA Teaching Academy

Each year, in collaboration with the LSA Dean's Office, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) organizes a Teaching Academy for all new assistant professors in the College.  The Teaching Academy developed out of discussions with recently hired faculty and aims to help junior faculty make an effective transition to the broad spectrum of teaching responsibilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  The program includes a two-day orientation in late August, covering topics such as

  • An Introduction to U-M Students
  • Teaching Large Courses
  • Course Planning
  • Teaching Graduate Seminars

During the academic year, faculty attend additional workshops and discussions on teaching methods. During the first semester of teaching, assistant professors also participate in CRLT's midterm student feedback program.
