Advising
Students seeking advising for the Dutch Language and Culture minor are instructed to contact the Director of Dutch Studies.
Prerequisites
DUTCH 111, 112, and 231 or equivalent, as determined by the Department placement examination.
Requirements
Required Dutch Language and Culture courses (10 credits):
DUTCH 232: Second Year Dutch, or equivalent, 4 cr.
DUTCH 325: Speaking (of) Flemish: the language and culture of Flanders, or equivalent, 3 cr.
DUTCH/JUDAIC 351: Anne Frank in Context, 3 cr.
Electives (6 credits): Two or more courses chosen from among:
a. Netherlandic arts:
DUTCH 491: section titled, "Whose Style? Art, Culture, and Lifestyle Trends in Belgium.", 3 cr.
CARILLON 150: Performance for non SMTD students, 2 cr.
HISTART 260: European Painting and Sculpture of the Seventeenth Century or alternative course covering Netherlandic art, 3 cr.
DUTCH 339: Independent Study, 2-4 cr.
b. Study abroad, not more than one course from, 3 cr.:
STDABRD 356 (European Union Summer Program in Brussels and Leuven, Belgium)
STDABRD 399 (European Union Summer Program in Amsterdam, Netherlands)
STDABRD 400 (Social Sciences in Amsterdam, Netherlands)
c. Diaspora studies and Race theory (the following courses link to Dutch and Belgian colonial history and Dutch Jewry):
