Disability Studies

Advising

Students are encouraged to work with undergraduate advisers in making course selections. Advising appointments are scheduled through the English undergraduate program advising webpage. For questions about program objectives and learning experiences in the minor, please contact the Director of the Minor in Disability Studies at [email protected].

Grade Policies

All courses taken in the minor must be C- or better. Students must earn an overall GPA of at least 2.0 in courses taken in the minor.

Prerequisites

There is no prerequisite course for declaring the Disability Studies minor. It is recommended that students begin by taking ENGLISH 216: Introduction to Disability Studies.

Requirements

Minimum Credits: 15

Required Courses (6 credits)

  • ENGLISH 216: Introduction to Disability Studies
  • ENGLISH 480: Advanced Topics in Disability Studies 

Electives (9 credits) Courses taken at the 200-level and above from an approved list. Students interested in taking a course not on the list should first speak with a program advisor.

Residency

At least 9 credits must be taken in-residence. Students wanting to take courses offered outside of UM-Ann Arbor should meet first with a program advisor to discover how the coursework could complete requirements.
