Dear LSA Students,

Following up on incidents this semester, and the continuing dialogue around campus climate and inclusion, I wanted to announce a new initiative that we are calling the LSA Democracy in Action Fund. The purpose of the fund is to encourage frank, civil conversations around issues of campus climate, diversity, activism, speech, and inclusion.

Beginning in early January, students are encouraged to apply for funding for projects that will continue to foster connections between groups and facilitate important dialogues on campus. Sample projects might include a forum that brings together liberal and conservative students, the design and implementation of an anti-racism blog, or a discussion series on the LSA academic integrity pledge. Any student with the support of at least three registered student organizations (although the student need not be a member of the groups) is encouraged to apply. There will also be opportunities to work in teams with faculty and professional staff members.

We will begin formally accepting applications for funding in January. I hope you will take some time during winter break to begin thinking about your ideas to help build bridges on campus. In the meantime, I hope you have a happy, safe, and enjoyable break.

Warm Regards,

Angela Dillard
Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education
