San Duanmu’s current research covers several areas: a book project on prosody, quantitative studies of phonological patterns, quantitative studies of words and compounds in Chinese, and language documentation.
He has recently taught Sound Patterns, Phonology, first-year seminar on Sounds of English, and Corpus Linguistics.
Professor Duanmu has served on the editorial boards of several professional journals. He also worked as a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in China in 2014.

- Professor Duanmu’s research focuses on general properties of language, especially those in phonology and morphology. He has worked on feature theory, syllable theory, metrical theory, tones, compounds, the lexicon, and poetic rhythm.
