The Department of Linguistics is pleased to welcome Stephen Tobin, who joined the department as a Research Fellow in August 2018.

Having completed his undergraduate degree in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, Stephen obtained an MA at the University of Southern California and completed his PhD at the University of Connecticut in 2015. He comes to the University of Michigan from Universität Potsdam (Germany), where he was a Research Fellow from 2014 to 2018.

Stephen's research interests are centered on phonetics—both speech production and speech perception as well as the relation between the two, and especially as this relation is revealed in investigations of phonetic accommodation. He has experience with the acquisition of data using EMA, real-time MRI and eye-tracking, and with the processing of these data in MATLAB and R.

Welcome, Stephen!
