What is Giving Blueday?

Giving Blueday is the University of Michigan’s annual day of giving. Scheduled to coincide with Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving following Thanksgiving weekend, Giving Blueday is a day for everyone who loves Michigan to join together to combine their support and maximize impact. The fourth annual Giving Blueday will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, from 12:00 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. EST.

Giving Blueday: November 28, 2017

Giving Blueday 2017 gives us a special opportunity to continue the bicentennial commemoration and throw U-M one big birthday celebration. Join us and support the causes, schools, units, or student organizations that you feel most passionate about!

Giving Blueday Impact

The ongoing success of Giving Blueday is credited to the exceptional participation from the global Michigan family, who support their U-M passions by making gifts of all sizes or by spreading the word to their social networks.

In 2014, Giving Blueday exceeded everyone’s expectations by raising $3.2 million from 5,437 donors in the first year. Each year more donors have generously contributed even more dollars, proving that when the U-M family joins together, they can have an enormous impact. Last year, on Giving Blueday 2016 we crossed the $5 million mark, with donations from over 7,300 donors from around the world supporting over 4,000 areas at U-M.

Student participation on Giving Blueday has continued to rise, growing from 80 organizations the first year to more than 100 student organizations raising funds for their causes in 2016. New donors have continued to step up each year as well, with over 2,000 new donors each year on Giving Blueday. Each and every victor showing how much can be done when we all come together to make a difference!

Why should I give to the University of Michigan?

Over the past 50 years, support from the State of Michigan has declined from providing nearly 80% of the General Fund to less than 16%. Tuition and fees have risen to make up the difference. To remain affordable, U-M is committed to keeping its costs low, limiting tuition increases, and investing heavily in financial support for students ... but we need your support.

For 200 years donors have played a vital role in making the University of Michigan a world-class institution. When you make a gift to U-M, you help assure that this university will always be a place where leaders are shaped; a place where knowledge is born and creativity ignited; a place with the passion, talent, and will to take on and solve the world’s most pressing problems. You also support the Victors for Michigan campaign, which has three priorities: student support, engaged learning, and bold ideas.
