Professor Andries Coetzee, Associate Chair and Director of Graduate Studies, was recently recognized by the North-West University (NWU), South Africa, with an Alumni Excellence Award. 

Coetzee received a bachelor's degree (1992, Classics & Semitics) and a master's degree (1996, Semitic Languages) from NWU. He also served as a member of the NWU faculty between 1994 and 2004, and has held an honorary position as "extraordinary professor" at the institution since 2014. 

At the biennial Alumni Excellence Awards ceremony, Coetzee was recognized, alongside eight other distinguished alumni, for his contributions to linguistic research, and for the promotion of Africa and Afrikaans on the international scene.
