Marlyse Baptista conducted field work with geneticists Paul Verdu and Cesar Fortes-Lima and with linguist Sérgio Costa on the islands of Brava, Fogo and Santiago in May 2017. This is the fourth consecutive trip that the team undertakes to the island of Cape Verde to collect joint speech and DNA samples from Cape Verdean individuals in the hopes of unveiling the founding populations of each island of the Cape Verdean archipelago. In Summer 2018, they will conduct their research on the islands of Boa Vista, Maio and São Nicolau.
