The Fierce Urgency of Now!

Continue the fight of Dr. King by taking action with "the fierce urgency of now"! Since 2006, when Affirmative Action was banned in Michigan, minority enrollment has drastically decreased, which has caused a rise in racism on campus. At the same time, a lot of people have been speaking out against racism and expressing that they want to take action. This event will unite as many students and student orgs as possible together in taking a strong stand against racism, and for opening up our campus to our younger sisters and brothers by bringing back affirmative action and creating a U of M scholarship for undocumented students. The case to overturn Prop. 2 and restore affirmative action programs was heard by the Supreme Court in October. A decision is expected this summer so everything done on this campus in the next few months can have a great impact on that decision.
