The Kelsey Keeps It Cool at the Townie Street Party
The Kelsey was in attendance at this year's Townie Street Party, answering the burning question: How did people in Roman Egypt keep cool? The answer? Fans! How do we know? Several fans made from finely woven palm fibers were excavated at Karanis, Egypt, and are now in the collection of the Kesley Museum. Back at the Street Party, we provided materials for kids of all ages to create their own woven paper fans and the results were spectacular. See below for a few of our favorites.
Three palm-fiber fans from Karanis are currently on display at the Kelsey Museum in our "Kelsey in Focus" case. You can also learn more about them by visiting the Kelsey In Focus page on our website.
