On Friday, May 1, the Kelsey Museum will open its latest special exhibition, Randal Stegmeyer: Exposing the Past. Since our galleries are closed due to COVID-19, we have created a virtual exhibition that mimics the look and feel of the planned installation. We look forward to the day when we can welcome you to visit the exhibition in person, but until then, you can view Randy's magnificent photographs from the comfort of your home.

Randal Stegmeyer has been a photographer for the University of Michigan Library since 2007. He began working with the Kelsey at about the same time and quickly became our go-to photographer when we wanted beautiful and dramatic images of our artifacts and buildings. Randy’s photos have been central to Kelsey Director Terry Wilfong’s recent research and publications, and feature prominently in the Kelsey's marketing and promotional materials.

This exhibition is an overview of Randy's career in photography, surveying his images of Kelsey Museum artifacts, his work for other U-M and Michigan cultural institutions, as well as his wide-ranging personal projects. Co-curated by Randy and Terry as a culmination of their work together over the years, it is also our way of expressing our gratitude to Randy for his years of collaboration and friendship.

The online exhibition will go live on Friday. In the meantime, please enjoy this interview with Randy as he discusses his career in photography and his plans for the future.
