The 2019 U-M Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium theme is “Unravel.” On this guided tour, we will unravel complexities and inequalities of ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern societies through artifacts on display. We will also address the modern ways museums have engaged with and perpetuated inequality through both scholarly assumptions and problematic collecting practices. We look forward to discussing with you how the museum can improve on past practices and better engage with our community inside and outside the university.
Saturday Sampler tours are free and open to all visitors. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this tour, please contact the education office (734-647-4167) at least two weeks in advance. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the University to arrange.
