Join us in our classroom for an up-close and personal look at the ancient world, led by Kelsey Museum staff. Hands-on experiences are available Monday through Friday (9:00 AM–4:00 PM) and require at least three weeks of advance notice to arrange. If you are interested in an object-handling session, we require six weeks of lead time (see below for more information).
Available Activities
- Provenance, Provenience, and Partage—Problems in Museum Collecting: Why is it important to know where an artifact came from?
- Evidence of the Victorian Art Market: Learn how past fads and art trends continue to shape modern museums.
- Burial Boxes: What can tombs, grave markers, and grave goods tell us about individuals?
- Kelsepolis Excavation Area: Step onto a recreated archaeological site and learn how archaeologists interpret their finds. Kelsepolis excavations are based on real Kelsey Museum excavations.
- Roman Coins and Imperial Propaganda: Explore the Roman Empire through its smallest monuments.
Object Handling
Advanced courses (300+) can request the opportunity to study artifacts from the collections. Six weeks of prior notice and curatorial approval are required. Please schedule your object-handling session directly with Shannon Ness (university programs coordinator) at [email protected].
