The Kelsey Museum is a distinctive and significant resource for the University of Michigan community and fellow colleges and universities in the region. In addition to the permanent and special exhibitions, we offer a wide range of programs developed as resources for university audiences. All programs listed below can be specifically tailored to meet course requirements. Please contact the Education Department for more details.
This is our most popular resource for university classes. Tours are led by our knowledgeable docents and staff members and are tailored to the specifics of your course. Visit the University Tours page for details.
Experiential Learning Activities
Activity components are opportunities for students to engage more deeply with the topic of the tour. They are designed to encourage students’ analytic thinking as well as exploring the roles of archaeologists and museums in our understanding of past cultures. Visit the Experiential Learning Activities page for details.
Please note: a minimum of 6 weeks advance notice is needed.
If a visit to the museum is not an option, the Kelsey Museum is also able to bring the tour to your classroom. A member of our education staff can visit your class with an education kit that includes reproductions of artifacts students can hold and examine. Education kits include Roman Daily Life, Greek Daily Life, Ancient Writing, Near Eastern Daily Life, and Egyptian Daily Life.
We would also be excited to work with you in developing course curriculum that incorporates the Kelsey Museum and its collections.
This is an annual essay competition open to all undergraduate students enrolled in courses related to the ancient world at the University of Michigan. It is sponsored by the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, the Department of Near Eastern Studies, and the Language Resource Center at the University of Michigan, with a donation from Lawrence and Eleanor Jackier. For more information, please visit the Jackier Prize page.
