Lectures

The Kelsey sponsors and co-sponsors lectures on topics related to archaeology and ancient history. All our lectures are free and open to the public. See the calendar below for upcoming lectures, or click here for a complete schedule. For more information, please contact the Education Department.

Did you miss a lecture? Many museum lectures are recorded and posted online and on the Kelsey's YouTube page.

FAST Lectures (Field Archaeology Series on Thursdays)

Every month, students and staff in the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology (IPCAA) share their latest research and report on ongoing excavations. These monthly lectures will keep you current on what’s happening in this dynamic department at the University of Michigan.

Archaeological Institute of America Lecture Series

Each year between September and May, the Archaeological Institute of America sends three outstanding archaeologists to lecture to each of its societies. This free lecture program provides a unique opportunity for the public to meet practicing archaeologists and to learn of new discoveries.

Michigan Archaeological Society Lectures

The Huron Valley Chapter of the Michigan Archaeological Society (MAS) meets monthly at the Kelsey Museum, September through May. Meetings are open to members and non-members of MAS.

Exhibition Opening Lectures

Lectures are always provided in conjunction with the opening of a new exhibition. These are given by specialists and offer an in-depth exploration of the featured exhibit.

NEW IN 2021: Flash Talks (Virtual)

Join us at noon on the first Friday of every month for Kelsey Museum Flash Talks. Kelsey curators, staff members, researchers, and graduate students give a 15-minute Zoom presentation about their recent research, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Flash Talks are free and open to all visitors. See the schedule below for more information and the Zoom links.
