Family Day is a biannual, family-friendly event featuring engaging, hands-on activities related to the cultures of the ancient Middle East, Greece, Egypt, and Rome!
Spring Family Day 2023:
Much like our own everyday life, life in the ancient mediterranean was full of different sounds, smells, sights, tastes, and textures. Imagine yourself walking through the Roman forum, you may hear the shouts of vendors, the passing of wagons, the murmuring of birds and animals, and the chitchat of people at the market. Maybe you’d smell some flowers, food, or even stinky donkeys! Each day, our experience is guided by our senses.
Join us at family day for an interactive exploration of the 5 senses of the ancient mediterranean:
Explore the tastes and smells of ancient Rome!
Discover the textures of ancient craft!
Create your own ancient musical instruments!
Experience a performance of ancient music!
The Kelsey Museum and the Family Day event are free and open to the public. Engaging, hands-on activities and storytelling take place in Newberry Hall. More storytelling and activities take place in the museum galleries from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.Live performances will be from 1-2pm.
The Ancient Egypt Family Day on March 24, 2018, was our biggest event yet! Kids of all ages came to the museum to mummify Barbies, tour Egyptian tombs with virtual-reality glasses, create Egyptian crowns, and (of course!) see the amazing Egyptian artifacts on display in the galleries.
