The Institute for the Humanities' Public Humanities Interns hosted their first event of the academic year on December 7. "Don't Swipe" was designed to be an immersive look at the university experience via interacting with La Pelea/The Fight, a fall 2022 exhibition in the Institute for the Humanities Gallery by artist Salvador Diaz.

Over 50 attendees got a first-hand introduction to the artwork from curator Amanda Krugliak, who explained how the 46-foot exhibition-in-the-round shows just how many perspectives can be present in a single moment or event. Students then enjoyed an ice-cream sundae bar and had an opportunity to add their personal perspectives to a collaborative wrap-around public art piece, exemplifying how the university experience is a single idea and yet multifacted.

The Public Humanities Internship is a paid internship program that provides 8 selected undergraduate students at the University of Michigan with the opportunity to participate in the life of the Institute for the Humanities through a unique combination of program development and event marketing.
