About
Hi everyone, I'm Andrea and I'm from Warren, MI. My major is Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN) with a possible minor of Medical Anthropology on the Pre-Med track. I plan on becoming a pediatric emergency physician since I am very passionate about emergency medicine and I absolutely love caring for people, especially children. Some hobbies of mine are hanging out with friends and family, playing volleyball, watching any sports (mainly for umich), watching anime, marvel, etc. I also love Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, Station 19, and Harry Potter (I'm a Gryffindor if anyone was wondering). I am in a few clubs/organizations at umich such as, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Club, Michigan Health Aid, Michigan Active Citizens-Alternative Spring Break Program (MAC-ASB), University Mentorship Program, Success Connects, and the Chaldean American Student Association (CASA). A couple interesting facts about me is that I plan on receiving my Emergency Medical Technician certification this summer before we move in and I am also a U.S. Presidential Scholar for the class of 2021! My favorite thing about HSSP are the observations that we were able to sign up for. Take advantage of them, it's a really great opportunity to further explore your interests and it looks great on your resume! I absolutely love the HSSP community; I met my life long best friends through HSSP and I will forever be grateful for that.
What is a quote that inspires you, and why?
"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." "Failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of success." "It always seems impossible until it's done." There are a ton of quotes that I love because they're so inspiring and it's helpful to know this before the year starts!
What is a health issue that you are really passionate about, and why?
Mental health issues since it's not looked at enough. Several people struggle with it, but because it's so common, it's really hard to get treatment and help when it's needed to function in every day life.
Describe a way you implement wellness and taking care of yourself?
I began caring for myself and seeing a CAPS counselor along with taking medication for my mental health issues which has helped me do much better academically and mentally of course. Speaking up about the past has made me so much stronger and I feel so much better because of it!
What is a show that you've watched, a book you've read, or music you've enjoyed recently?
Criminal Minds is by far my favorite show and I also absolutely love anime! Attack on Titan is my all time favorite. I listen to all types of music and I haven't really read any books lately, but I do want to start! (In need of book, shows, movies, and music recommendations)
