Honors Pre-Health Academic Advisor
About
Stephanie Chervin is an academic advisor and pre-med advisor in the Honors Program. Additionally she is a member of the Honors Academic Board, recruits and supports the Honors 135 seminar instructors, and serves as an ex-officio member of the LSA Curriculum Committee. Stephanie is a member of the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.
Stephanie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Dance. She furthered her interest in the study of organic chemistry by earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 2000. Stephanie was a double post-doctoral research fellow, first at the Life Sciences Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute at U-M and later in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy at U-M. She has authored several peer-reviewed articles detailing her research in the fields of carbohydrate chemistry (her favorite!), synthetic chemistry, blood cell development, and enzymology; taught as an adjunct instructor in chemistry at Washtenaw Community College, and has been advising Michigan students full-time since 2010.
Stephanie values being part of the moment when students sketch out their broader questions and connect the liberal arts experience to their present and future. Her wish for Honors Program students is that they challenge themselves in meaningful ways and leave U-M with a deeper knowledge of themselves and their potential for doing good in the world. Stephanie is an occasional ballet dancer and enjoys spoiling her fluffy multipoo, Daisy.
