The Truman and Udall Scholarships are among the top awards for undergraduates planning careers in public service (broadly construed), environment and sustainability, or Native American tribal issues.  (More information below.)  Please join Henry Dyson, LSA Honors Program, for an information session for these scholarships on one of two dates:

Truman Scholarships of up to $30,000 for graduate studies are awarded annually to juniors and third-year seniors who are planning careers in government or elsewhere in public service (broadly defined as working for the common good).

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  2. Extensive record of community and public service and leadership.
  3. Demonstrated potential for and commitment to a career in public service.
  4. Outstanding academic performance – applicants must be in the upper 25% of their class, >3.65 GPA).

U-M Application Deadline: Monday before Thanksgiving by 12 noon.

Udall Scholarships are awarded annually to sophomore and junior students who are planning careers related to the environment and to Native American and Alaska Native students who plan careers in health care and tribal public policy. Udall Scholarship provides up to $5000 for academic fees, a 5-day Scholar Orientation in Tucson, and access to the Scholar alumni network for life.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  1. Must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
  2. Demonstrated leadership and passion for public service, preferably in activities related to the environment or tribal issues.
  3. Strong academic performance (average GPA of award winners is 3.7).
