SPACE LIMITED TO FIRST-YEAR AND SOPHOMORE HONORS.
In this presentation, Sarah Renberg talks about the history and process of creating her Honors in Engaged Liberal Arts project, a podcast on the challenges college students face.
Sarah Renberg is a senior studying Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. Her combination of academic interests ranging from neurophysiology to political philosophy converge at a desire to understand wellbeing, at the individual level and more broadly.
Troubled by the growing mental health epidemic on college campuses, she created and produced the interview-based podcast, How to Student, in order to provide accessible peer mentorship and start important conversations surrounding student wellbeing during the pandemic. Sarah prided herself on How to Student’s diverse set of guests and hoped that all listeners could relate to the conversations, learn about the differing perspectives on campus, and leave with actionable advice to maximize their college experience. To date, the podcast has over 1,600 downloads and has been incorporated into classes such as CSP 101 and Honors 240: Wellness. By drawing on empirical data from the social and biological sciences, partnering with experts, and being open about her own college experience when interviewing her guests, Sarah hopes to have created a valuable resource for students to listen to long after she graduates.
