Commencement Ceremonies

There are three graduation periods every year - April, August, and December - but only two campus-wide commencement ceremonies: Spring Commencement (at the conclusion of the Winter term), and Fall Commencement (in December). August (Summer) graduates are eligible to participate in either the Spring or the December ceremony.

In keeping with the university's decision to celebrate the Class of 2021 remotely, there are multiple opportunities for you to honor the occasion with family and friends. Students eligible to graduate will receive regular program emails and updates as we move forward with graduation plans.

U-M Spring 2021 Commencement: May 1

As the university has announced, Bryan Stevenson, a noted civil rights attorney who has worked to exonerate prisoners on death row, will deliver the address to graduates during the University of Michigan’s virtual Spring Commencement on May 1. Additionally, there are plans to for students to take part in one of multiple socially distanced photo sessions on the field of Michigan Stadium beginning April 6. Use this link for complete information.

How can you take part?

Apply to be a Student Speaker here (deadline last Tuesday of March). This is a call to interested student speakers who are able to participate in the ceremony, delivering a short virtual message (3-4 mins) to the cohort on Thursday, 4/29. Details here. Applications are due no later than 3/31 at 11:59pm.

Share an affirmation, favorite memory, or words of wisdom.  We'd like to feature this year's Honors graduates in TWIH and on our socials! Include any encouragements or congratulations you'd like to send to your peers or words of wisdom to those who are following in your footsteps. Submit entries here.

Good with graphic design? Students on the planning team have seen some great Zoom graduation backgrounds which feature graduates' names and majors. We plan to include all registrants' names during the ceremony and would love to use your talents! Email entries here by 3/31 at 11:59pm. (Selected entry will receive mention in the program.)
