LSA Honors Commencement Acknowledgement
There are elements of the traditional Honors Commencement ceremony held in Crisler that we will miss this year. You'll miss seeing the senior slideshow up on the Jumbotron, processing down the stairs, waving to guests, sitting by your friends while listening to remarks by peers, faculty, and guests. We'll miss calling out each graduate's name as you cross the stage, shaking your hands, and bestowing your Honors cords. We will all miss singing "The Victors" together.
Still, there are many experiences that cannot be taken away. You completed your undergraduate education at one of the finest public research institutions in the world. Many of you entered Honors in your first year, taking Honors courses and living in South Quad. Some completed the requirements for the Sophomore Honors Award. By your junior or senior year, you endeavored to complete an independent research project or an engaged liberal arts project, after which you wrote a thesis or defended your work. This required creativity, initiative, and, particularly at the close of this term, a profound strength of will.
There are other things that you will miss, but that will always remain in your minds and hearts. Some of you have shared these memories in order that Honors could create a virtual yearbook, which will appear on this page. For every visual image, we know that you carry so many more as you take your next steps. You may be starting your career or graduate work. Some may travel, when you're able. You may begin law school or medical school. Still, you'll always be a Wolverine.
We wish you every success. We hope to see you soon. And wherever you go, Go Blue!
A Message from the Director
My tenure as Director of the Honors Program began in summer 2016, the same summer most of the Class of 2020 began their Michigan journeys. That is why you are particularly close to my heart, and I wish I were able to congratulate each of you in person. Alas, this video will have to do, but our pride and happiness about your achievement is undiminished. Congratulations!
