History Commencement

The History Department celebrates undergraduate graduation with a commencement ceremony for history majors who graduate in April, August, or the previous December.

Preparing to Graduate

It is extremely important that you begin preparing for graduation early in the term BEFORE you plan to graduate (September and October for April/August grads; February and March for December grads). Only if you do so will you have time to take any missing classes you may have overlooked.

If you want to have your name printed in the commencement program, you must apply for graduation by mid-October (for December commencement) or mid-February (for spring commencement).

Steps for Graduation

1. "Apply for Graduation" online through Wolverine Access (Student Business). This step puts your name on the graduation list for the term you specify.

2. Meet with advisors in all of your major and minors in order to have your Major/Minor Releases submitted. Click here to make an appointment with a History advisor.

After you've completed both steps, watch your email for your Official Degree Audit.

Read and save this letter. It states which requirements you have fulfilled and everything you still need to complete for LSA, your major, and minor. Follow the letter exactly to plan your final courses. If you take courses other than the ones listed, you need to submit a new major release.

If you have any questions about your audit letter or your graduation status, contact the LSA Academic Auditor ( or the appropriate official in the Honors Program or the Residential College.
