Doctoral Student in History
About
Ryan Glauser received his Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY College at Buffalo in 2016 and his joint Master of Arts in Global History from Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in 2018. Afterwards, Ryan taught History and English in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to middle school and high school students for a year before joining the History department.
His current research broadly focuses on how international organizations, European governments, and post-colonial governments facilitated movement of people, capital, and ideas between the Global North and South in the evolving Global Cold War. The circular nature of these movements led to fundamental restructuring of international organizations and the international system. In particular, Ryan is currently researching the United Nations Development Fund as a site of convergence between development, migration, and human rights. By examining decision-making processes during international crises, such as the fall of Saigon and Phnom Penh, human rights become an unequal and geographically dependent set of ideas that challenge UN humanitarian principles.
