I research the history of the Space Age in the Soviet Union and the United States. My particular interest is in how the Soviet and American space programs planned around the future, reconfiguring technologies, society, and economies around the massively ambitious enterprise of space exploration, and how that relationship to the future disintegrated and was reformed as both space programs collapsed in the late 1960s and early 70s. I approach this history as a social historian, investigating how Soviet and American society transformed in ways big and small, in orbit, the workplace, and even in the home.
Currently I am based in Chicago. In my spare time I enjoy fried chicken and dive bars that struggle to pass health inspections.
