The Department of History has selected three undergraduates to receive Bratman Writing Awards for the Fall 2020 term. Pictured left to right above:
- Brenna Ringwelski, First Prize, History 496 with Valerie Kivelson, for an essay entitled, “An Exercise in Autonomy: Women Revolutionaries in Siberian Prisons"
- Dustin Gladstone, Second Prize, History 496 with Jennifer Jones, for an essay entitled, “Legal Restriction of Black Movement in the Wake of Slavery”
- Madelyn Miller, History 202 with Dario Gaggio, for an essay entitled, “W. Seymour: An Orderly at War"
The Bratman awards recognize excellence in writing by undergraduate History majors in History 202 and History 496/497 courses. The awards honor the memory of Nancy Bylan Bratman, a U-M Honors History major who was also active with the Michigan Daily, where she served as a reporter and associate editor.
