Soyoon Ryu (she/her) studies modern and contemporary Asian art. Her interests include intersections of visual culture and politics in East and Southeast Asia, decolonial thought, ecocriticism, and the issue of form in socially-engaged and participatory practices. Prior to joining Michigan, she worked with Contemporary and Modern Art Perspectives (C-MAP) at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and was involved in a number of collaborative projects in South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Philippines as a writer and visual artist. Soyoon received her B.A. in History of Art and Government from Cornell University and her M.A. in Contemporary Art from SOAS, University of London.
